What was the "Jazz Age"?
The term "Jazz Age" was coined by novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald. It refers to the time after World War I, mainly the 1920s, that saw the rise of Jazz culture. Jazz originated in America, and later spread around the world. However, Jazz wasn't accepted by all; many of the older generation believed that Jazz music was degrading the moral fibre of society. It caused strife in the 1920s with the American public, dividing them into supporters and detractors. In this way, the Jazz Age represents the typical changes and attitudes of this post-war era. The jazz age was a period of time when people expressed themselves through their music. Popular forms of this include Blues, Ragtime and March.
