Edward "Kid" Ory
Edward "Kid" Ory was the leader of one of the most popular Jazz bands during and after the Twenties. Kid Ory's Creole Jazz band included many jazz greats, such as King Oliver, Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bechet.
Kid Ory was originally a banjo player, but switched to trombone. His knowledge of the banjo enabled him to create the 'tailgate' style of playing the trombone, where the trombone plays a rythmic line under the trumpets and cornets.
Kid Ory's Creole Jazz band was remarkably the first all African-American band to get recorded. Their records have survived them, and they include Savoy Blues, Careless Love and Muskrat Ramble
